Architectural cappriccio depicting a piazza featuring an arcade, an obelisk and statuary, with fragments of stonework shown in the foreground
|Subject||Obelisks ; Arches ; Stage sets ; Statues ; Ruins ; Arcades|
NOTES: This composition, by an artist of the School of Bibiena, may have been drawn by a non-Italian or possibly by an Italian artist working in Germany in about 1750. It appears to derive from Giuseppe Bibiena's designs and possibly quotes in part from a stage design engraved as plate 7 in Part I of his 'Architettura e Prospettive' (1740), as well as from his designs for imaginary piazzas.
